Tompkins, Mayde Creek earn TASCO all-state

May 9, 2019

Katy ISD girls soccer teams were recognized with four all-state selections and seven all-region spots in Texas Association of Soccer Coaches postseason accolades.

Fittingly, state finalist Tompkins led the way with four players honored. Cinco Ranch, Mayde Creek and Seven Lakes were represented as well.

Tompkins sophomore defender Avery Burchett and junior forward Skylar Parker earned first-team all-state spots after helping to lead the Falcons to a 27-1-0 record and their second Region III-6A championship in three years.

Burchett recorded three assists while leading a defense that allowed merely 16 goals all season. Parker amassed 28 goals and 10 assists, good for 66 points.

The only Falcon with more points was honorable-mention all-state junior forward Barbara Olivieri, who had 31 goals, 16 assists. Her 78 points also earned the District 19-6A offensive MVP award.

Mayde Creek freshman goalkeeper Kirsten Baxa, voted 19-6A Goalkeeper of the Year, added second-team all-state honors to her remarkable debut season.

Tompkins junior defender Terin Graham made the TASCO Region III-6A first team, contributing 11 assists to the Falcons’ near-undefeated season.

Cinco Ranch had two first-team all-region selections in senior defender Makayla Wang and junior forward Ashley Bencivengo. Wang was voted 19-6A Defensive MVP as well.

The Cougars had a Region III-6A second-team senior forward in Abby McCain after reaching their eighth consecutive regional tournament.

Seven Lakes junior forward Arianna Ghafari made the all-region second team, as did Mayde Creek sophomore midfielder Emma Arroyo.

Ghafari was voted District 19-6A MVP after leading the Spartans to the runner-up spot and an area championship. The talented group included all-region honorable-mention junior defender Peyton Guidry.

Katy’s Dianne Loftin earned 19-6A Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to fourth place in the district, sealing a second straight playoff appearance.

Morton Ranch freshman Victoria Ruvalcaba earned Newcomer of the Year.
