PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Lawyers for former NFL players now eligible for payments under the league’s $1 billion concussion settlement said Tuesday they’ve found evidence that unscrupulous third-party providers are trying to take advantage of players with significant brain damage.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Greg Olsen will miss a minimum of eight games after the Carolina Panthers placed the three-time Pro Bowl tight end on injured reserve with a broken right foot today. The earliest Olsen is eligible to return Nov. 26 when Panthers visit the New York Jets. Panthers trainer Ryan Vermillion told the team website that Olsen has a “Jones fracture,” meaning he broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.
UNDATED (AP) — Michael Phelps says he has “no desire” to return to competitive swimming, but he is eager to stay involved with the sport and cheer on those who follow in his enormous wake. In an interview today with The Associated Press while promoting a healthy pet food campaign, Phelps says he’s excited about the birth of his second child and numerous opportunities away from the pool.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Santana Moss says Robert Griffin III took credit for coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan being fired by the Washington Redskins. During his weekly radio appearance on FM-106.7 in Washington yesterday, Moss says it bothered him that Griffin acted like the Shanahans’ treatment of him was what got them fired after the 2013 season. Griffin responded on Twitter, saying, “To openly lie about me is a betrayal.”
NEW YORK (AP) — The late Bob Wolff, one of the most prolific and recognizable voices in sports, will be honored with the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting from Fordham University.Wolff died in July at the age of 96. He called the play-by-play in championship games in all four major team sports. He interviewed Babe Ruth, was the original voice of the Washington Senators in 1947 and was the broadcaster for the New York Knicks for both of their championship teams.
