Smoked Trout Recalled
A Minnesota company is recalling 260 pounds of smoked trout because it may be contaminated with salmonella, which can cause serious infections in certain people.
Global Seafood LLC is recalling packages of Morey’s Smoked Canadian Lake Trout sold in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. The recalled packages bear the expiration date 9/16/00 and also bear the lot number 3616 and the ``processed″ number 225 on their front label. The trout has been in supermarkets since Aug. 15.
Consumers should not eat the recalled trout but return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain and vomiting. Healthy people typically recover in a few days, but salmonella can cause serious, even life-threatening, infections in young children, the elderly and people with weak immune systems.
No illnesses have been reported.
Michigan agriculture inspectors discovered salmonella in a package of the trout during a routine supermarket inspection, and notified the Minneapolis-based manufacturer. Global Seafood said it has ceased production of the smoked trout until health officials uncover the cause of the contamination.
