News Desks Flooded at Treasury
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Pipes burst and flooded out some news organizations at the Treasury Department, forcing the agency to close its press room Wednesday afternoon.
The flood started around 2:15 p.m. EDT when ceiling pipes suddenly began spewing a rust-colored liquid.
News desks belonging to The Associated Press, Reuters, Dow Jones, AFX News and Bridge News were in the area hardest hit by the flooding. Some news organizations’ computers and other equipment were damaged.
Treasury spokeswoman Michelle Smith ordered the room closed shortly after the flood began. The cause of the pipe rupture was not immediately determined. The room was expected to be reopened on Thursday.
