Ferry Runs Aground, Four People Killed

COTABATO CITY, Philippines (AP) _ A packed ferry ran aground Monday, throwing passengers overboard and killing four people, the coast guard said. Three of the dead were children.

Two other children were missing after the Aida III was stranded at the mouth of Rio Grande Mindanao river during low tide at about 1:30 a.m., Lt. Emerson Pareja said.

The impact threw people and their belongings into the water, causing panic among the passengers, Pareja said. Coast guard divers retrieved the bodies of three children and one man. The bodies of two other children were missing.

The vessel, with maximum capacity of 170 passengers, came from Pagadian city, 70 miles of here.
