Joe Harris, former UVA standout, upsets Steph Curry in 3-point contest
The greatest shooter of all time was upset by a former Virginia Cavalier.
Brooklyn Nets forward and former UVA standout Joe Harris beat out Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry to win Saturday’s 3-point contest in Charlotte, North Carolina during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend.
Harris racked up 26 points in the final round coming away with the victory in Curry’s hometown.
Harris’ win left the crowd stunned. Curry, who holds the record for most 3-pointers made in a season, went cold in the final round.
Curry hit nine of his first 10 shots, but cooled off finishing with only 24 points.
“Steph is the greatest shooter of all time,” Harris told reporters, via ESPN. “Again, shooting off of the rack for a minute is not indicative of being a better shooter than Steph Curry. I don’t want anybody to get it twisted at all. He’s come in and won this thing [in 2015] and lost. He’s participated a number of different times. So for me to come in my first time and to win obviously is quite a surreal experience.”
Harris spent four years at Virginia (2010-2014) and has been with the Nets since 2016. He is shooting a career-high 50.1 percent from deep this season.
