WASHINGTON (AP) _ Treg Lee scored a career-high 24 points Saturday, leading No. 8 Ohio State to a 109-73 victory over American University.

The Buckeyes are now 6-0 and have won each game by at least 30 points. Their average margin of victory has been 42.8 points.

American (3-4) trailed only 16-13 with 11:37 left in the first half, but Lee’s 3-point play ignited a 16-3 run that put the Buckeyes in control with 8:40 remaining in the half.

Ohio State closed the first half with a 15-0 run over the final 4:30, taking a 58-24 lead.

Ohio State built its lead with its size advantage. The Buckeyes controlled both boards, holding American to only four offensive rebounds in the opening half.

Ohio State continued its dominance in the second half, building its lead to as many as 42 points on several occasions. American was unable to get within 30 points in the second half.

Brian Gilgeous, who had 11 first half points, led the Eagles with 27. American’s Brock Wortman scored 13 of his 20 in the second half. Perry Carter scored 14, Jim Jackson 13 and Jamaal Brown 12 for the Buckeyes.
