Scranton Allergist Waives Hearing On Indecent Assault Charges

October 10, 2018

SCRANTON — A Scranton allergist already awaiting trial on charges of inappropriately touching a woman in his office in June waived a preliminary hearing today in cases involving two similar alleged incidents in 2017.

By waiving the hearing before Magisterial District Judge Laura Turlip, Joel J. Laury, M.D., 52, moved the charges against him on to Lackawanna County Court.

Investigators charged Laury in July with one count of indecent assault for inappropriately touching a 13-year-old patient and with two counts of indecent assault and one count of indecent exposure for inappropriate contact with a 20-year-old college student who was shadowing him.

Both came forward after county detectives arrested Laury on charges of groping a different 20-year-old student who shadowed him in June. He was held for trial on those charges after a preliminary hearing July 31.

Laury, whose medical license was suspended after his initial arrest, remains free on $50,000 unsecured bail.
