Becht Signs With Buccaneers
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Free agent tight Anthony Becht signed a five-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday, a move coach Jon Gruden is counting on to help the club’s inconsistent running game.
Becht played the first five seasons of his career with the New York Jets, who selected him with the 27th pick in the 2000 draft _ a pick obtained from the Bucs in a trade that sent Keyshawn Johnson to Tampa Bay that year.
With the Jets, Becht caught 127 passes for 1,164 yards and 17 touchdowns and also contributed to the success of running back Curtis Martin, the NFL rushing champion with a career-best 1,697 yards last season.
Becht had 13 receptions for 100 yards and one TD in 2004.
