Former reporter to direct governor’s communications
New Mexico Gov.-elect Michelle Lujan Grisham has hired former New Mexican reporter Tripp Stelnicki as her communications director.
Stelnicki, a 2014 graduate of the University of Missouri, worked at the Santa Fe daily from October 2015 until last week.
He started as a copy editor before moving to the newspaper’s web desk. For the past 18 months he covered city and county government, as well as the recent gubernatorial election campaigns.
“We loved his writing during the campaign,” said Dominic Gabello, Lujan Grisham’s transition director. “He’s a great talent and we’re glad to have him.”
Stelnicki will be paid $85,000 a year.
Except for three Cabinet secretaries named last week, Democrat Lujan Grisham, who takes office on Jan. 1, has not yet announced who will fill key positions in her administration.
