LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Hawaii quarterback Glenn Freitas rushed for four touchdowns and passed for another as the Rainbow Warriors crushed UNLV 58-30 Saturday night.
Freshman running back George Ornellas led the Hawaii rushing attack by gaining 139 yards on nine carries. Hawaii (2-2) rolled up 436 yards on the ground.
The Rebels (1-4) also were hurt by four interceptions.
Freitas rushed for 65 yards on 12 carries and completed seven of 14 for 103 yards.
Freitas scored on runs of 1 and 2 yards as Hawaii took a 14-0 lead with 2:55 remaining in the first quarter.
His 26-yard scoring pass to Gerald Lacy and Ornellas’ 26-yard run gave Hawaii a 28-3 lead midway through the second period.
The Rebels rallied with Jared Brown throwing scoring passes of 23 and 13 yards in the final minute of the second quarter to cut the Hawaii lead to 28-17.
Carlton Oswalt kicked a 37-yard field goal one second before halftime to give Hawaii a 31-17 pad. Freitas scored on runs of 5 and 11 yards in the third period as the Rainbow Warriors built a 45-17 lead.
Brown led the Rebels by completing 13 of 26 for 121 yards, but was intercepted three times.
Brett Washington picked up 89 yards on 14 carries and teammate Tupu Alualu gained 77 yards on 11 carries for Hawaii.
