Hopoate back on NSW Origin side after mission

June 10, 2014

SYDNEY (AP) — Will Hopoate has been recalled to the New South Wales team for the second State of Origin match against Queensland, three seasons after making his debut in the series.

The 22-year-old Parramatta Eels center returned to the National Rugby League this season after two years away on a Mormon mission. He was chosen on the wing in Blues coach Laurie Daley’s 17-man side Tuesday for the second match in Sydney on June 18.

New South Wales, trying to prevent Queensland from winning its ninth consecutive Origin series, won the first match 12-8 on May 28 in Brisbane. A third match will be played July 9 in Brisbane.

Queensland named an expanded 22-man squad Monday and has injury concerns with team leaders Greg Inglis (ankle) and Billy Slater (shoulder).
