Man killed at Cleveland gas station hours after robbed at same gas station in ambush attack, police say

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The 29-year-old man fatally shot early Tuesday outside a gas station was attacked in an ambush-style robbery hours earlier at the same gas station, according to police reports.

Yuri West, 29, was shot in the head about 1 a.m. in the parking lot of the Marathon Gas station on St. Clair Avenue and East 140th Street in the city’s Collinwood-Nottingham neighborhood, police said.

A 21-year-old man, Edward Blanton is charged with aggravated murder in connection with West’s death. He is not in police custody and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

West and Blanton argued at the gas station, Blanton pulled out a gun and shot West in the head, according to court records. West was taken to University Hospital, where he died.

West about 2 p.m. Monday was at the same gas station when several men ambushed him, police reports say.

He told police he wasn’t sure how many men attacked him, but one pointed a gun at him, police reports say.

The group stole his cellphone, car titles and $200 cash at gunpoint and ran, police reports say.

West reported the attack to police about 6 p.m., about seven hours before he died.
