W-B Man Joins Primary Race For City Council Seat

John Marconi announced he will be a Democratic primary candidate for Wilkes-Barre City Council’s District E. The district includes parts of Parsons, Miners Mills and the North End. Councilman Mike Merritt currently represents District E and doesn’t plan to seek another term this year. Marconi, 55, has been married to his wife Mary Jo for 34 years. He is a graduate of GAR High School and a life resident of the city. He currently is a manager at Market 32 in Edwardsville. In 2017, he began serving as a member of the Wilkes-Barre City Parking Authority. Marconi said he wants to introduce a new ordinance for landlords and tenants “to increase the safety and integrity of our neighborhoods.” He also said he would “work closely with Crime Watch Groups and city residents to improve the safety and security of our neighborhoods through funding for increased presence of the Police and Fire Departments.” Jessica McClay and Tony Thomas also announced they plan to run as Democratic candidates for District E. Candidates can start getting signatures on petitions Feb. 19 and must file petitions by March 12 to get on the primary election ballot.
