St. Joe girls defeat Boyd County 73-68

SUMMIT, Ky. — Marshall University recruits Savannah Wheeler and Paige Shy combined for 68 points as Shy’s Huntington St. Joe Irish defeated Wheeler’s Boyd County Lions, 73-68, Saturday in girls high school basketball.

Shy’s 25 points led the Irish, who took a 21-11 lead and never trailed after that. Dena Jarrells scored 17, Hannah Roberts 13 and Bailee Adkins 11.

St. Joe needed that multiplayer production to overcome a 43-point effort by Wheeler. Harley Paynter scored 19 for the Lions.

GRACE CHRISTIAN 55, FAIRVIEW 42: Samantha Wells turned in an 11-point, 10-rebound performance for Grace Christian (6-3) against the Eagles (6-9) in Westwood, Kentucky.

Hazley Matthews paced Grace Christian with 21 points and Emily Hutchinson scored 15. Jordan Rakes (15), Josey Nelson (12) and Grace Crisp (11) topped Fairview’s scoring.

ROCK HILL 50, GREEN 47: Rileigh Morris scored 19 points and snatched eight rebounds as the Redwomen beat the Bobcats, Makayla Scott scored 16. Kasey Kimbler paced Green with 26 points. Kame Sweeney scored 13.

WAYNE 64, LOGAN 54: The Pioneers made 10 3-point shots and took advantage of 29 turnovers to beat the Wildcats in Logan, West Virginia.

Sarah Hook led Wayne (10-0) with 16 points. Laikin Adkins scored 12 and Alaina Eaves and Jasmine Tabor 10 each. Jill Tothe paced Logan (7-2) with 16 points. Britney Welch scored 14 and Peyton Ilderton 13.

CHESAPEAKE 6 2 , PORTSMOUTH 52: The Panthers (7-2 overall, 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference) erased a 12-point deficit to beat the Trojans (5-3, 1-2) on Norm Persin Court in Chesapeake, Ohio. Eli Archer led Chesapeake with 18 points. Tylan Hutchison scored 11. Matthew Fraulini scored 22 for Portsmouth and was backed by Myles Shipp’s 13.

IRONTON 69, ROCK HILL 36: Charlie Large scored 20 and grabbed nine rebounds as the Fighting Tigers (6-3 overall, 2-1 OVC) defeated the Redmen (3-6, 0-3) at the Conley Center in Ironton. Jordan Grizzle scored 15 and Reid Carrico 12. Kadin France scored 16 for Rock Hill.

GALLIA ACADEMY 65, COAL GROVE 58: The Blue Devils rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat the Hornets in an Ohio Valley Conference game in Coal Grove, Ohio. Zach Loveday scored 29 and Justin McClelland 18 for Gallia Academy (4-3, 2-1 OVC). Logan Blouir added 13 points. Cory Borders led Coal Grove (6-3, 1-2) with 17 points, followed by Aaron Music with 12.

GREEN 90, SYMMES VALLEY 46: The Bobcats (6-5 overall, 3-3 Southern Ohio Conference) made 38 of 62 shots (61.2 percent) in a rout of the Vikings in Franklin Furnace, Ohio. Tanner Kimbler scored 28, Tayte Carver 20 and Gage Sampson 19. Sampson also hauled in 19 rebounds. Alex Carpenter and Drew Scherer each scored 13 for Symmes Valley (2-9, 2-3).

WINFIELD 51, POCA 46: Sean Hanshaw scored 15, Zach Simpkins 12 and Bryant Moore 11 as the Generals beat the Dots. Isaac McKneely paced Poca with 16 points. Evan McKneely added 13.

SOUTH GALLIA 64 , WAHAMA 34: The Rebels (7-3 overall, 3-2 Tri-Valley Conference) bolted to a 12-0 lead in a rout of the White Falcons (1-8, 1-4) in Mason, West Virginia. Braxton Hardy scored 17 and Eli Ellis 11 for South Gallia. Abram Pauley scored 11 for Wahama.

BOYD COUNTY 84 , FAIRVIEW 64: Talbott Taylor scored 36 to help the Lions defeat the Eagles. Blake Stewart scored 19 and Carson Webb 12.

NELSONVILLE-YORK 58, RIVER VALLEY 43: Mickey Seel scored 22 and Bryce Richards 12 as the Buckeyes (5-5 overall, 2-2 TVC) rolled over the Raiders in Bidwell, Ohio. Jordan Lambert led River Valley (1-7, 0-4) with 17 points. Rory Twyman chipped in 12.

ATHENS 54, MEIGS 41: The Bulldogs (7-2 overall, 5-0 TVC) outscored the Marauders 16-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a victory in Pomeroy, Ohio. Logan Maxfield led Athens with 19 points. Elijah Williams scored 10. Weston Baer paced Meigs with 13 points. Zach Bartrum scored 10.

TOLSIA 65, BUFFALO 61: The Rebels outscored the Bison 20-7 in the second quarter to improve to 7-2. Jacob Mollette led Tolsia with 17 points. Rob Contrell added 14 and Jesse Munzy 12. Buffalo (4-4) was led by Jackson England’s 19 points. Nate Gibson added 15 and Alec Hanshaw 13.

SOUTH CHARLESTON 42, CABELL MIDLAND 33: Myra Cuffee scored 15 points as the Eagles (8-0) defeated the Knights (6-3). Maliha Witten scored 12. Cabell Midland was led by Rylie Allie with 10.

BOYD COUNTY 84, FAIRVIEW 25: The Lions (14-1) jetted to a 32-7 lead and pounded the Eagles (6-8) in Summit, Kentucky. Harley Paynter led Boyd County with 21 points. Savannah Wheeler scored 18 and Bailey Rucker 15. Jordan Rakes scored 18 for Fairview.

RACELAND 33, LEWIS COUNTY 29: Kirsten Smith and Sierra Maynard scored nine each to lead the Rams (6-6) over the Lions (7-6). Tierra Tully paced Lewis County with 10 points.

LINCOLN CO. 76, POINT PLEASANT 57: The Panthers (4-4) rode Gracie Brumfield’s triple-double of 10 points, 10 steals and 10 assists to a triumph over the Big Blacks in Hamlin, West Virginia. Keke Henderson scored 15, Natalie Fout 13 and Allee Albright and Carly McComas 10 each.

CALVARY BAPTIST 41, OVC 28: Kaylyn Ruby came off the bench to score all 12 of her points in the second half and Kaitlyn Richards added 11 points in the home win for the Patriots (9-2) over the Ohio Valley Christian Defenders.
