Navy 79, Army 61
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) _ Jason Jeanpierre scored 19 points and Demond Shepard added 16 and Navy routed Army 79-61 Saturday, its 19th consecutive victory in the rivalry.
Navy (9-12, 4-2 Patriot League) held Army scoreless for the opening five minutes in going up by 12, and later held it without a field goal for another 5:37 in taking a 43-23 halftime lead. The Black Knights (9-10, 3-3) got no closer than 17 points in the second half.
Navy had a 28-5 rebound advantage in the first half as Army did not have an offensive rebound. No Army player grabbed a teammate’s miss until Greg Wallace got one with 12:57 remaining in the game.
Francis Ebong added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Navy, which led by as many as points in the second half, while Jehiel Lewis had nine points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Navy finished with a 47-25 rebounding advantage.
Army’s Chris Spatola, the league’s leading scoring, finished with 13 points but didn’t score until there was 16:19 to play. J.P. Spatola had 14 points for the Black Knights, while Charles Woodruff finished with 10, all in the first half.
