Combs drives in two to lift Fairland over South Gallia

ROME TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Olivia Combs drove in two runs to help Fairland defeat South Gallia 7-4 Tuesday in high school softball at Jim Bailey Field.

Libby Judge went 2-for-3 with a triple and two stolen bases. Ebony Howell was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Mika Blake struck out five in earning the win.

CABELL MIDLAND 19, CAPITAL 2: The Knights (11-3) overwhelmed the Cougars. Cabell Midland entertains St. Albans at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

IRONTON 13, GALLIA ACADEMY 4: Mary Beth Burton struck out eight Blue Angels and went 5-for-5 with two RBI and a home run to lead the Tigers (3-3 overall, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) to a victory at home. Riley Schreck smacked three hits. Peighton Rowe and Demi Sands each had two hits. Taiya Hamlet drove in two runs. Chasity Adams and Alex Barnes each had two hits for Gallia Academy (0-6, 0-1).

GREEN 21, SCIOTOVILLE EAST 9: Cass Kellogg drove in five runs and Kasey Kimbler went 4-for-5 as the Bobcats (3-3 overall, 3-0 Southern Ohio Conference) clobbered the Tartans (2-4, 0-4). Haley Bradley was the winning pitcher.

MEIGS 14, RIVER VALLEY 6: Katie Hawkins drove in three runs to lead the Marauders (4-3 overall, 1-0 Tri-Valley Conference) over the Raiders (2-5, 0-2) in Bidwell, Ohio. Ciera Older and Breanna Zirkle drove in two runs each. Brooklyn Sizemore had two hits for River Valley. Kaylee Tucker drove in two runs.

WAHAMA SWEEPS SOUTH GALLIA: The White Falcons (10-1 overall, 5-0 TVC) beat the Rebels 20-2 and 12-5 in Mercerville, Ohio. Hannah Billups won the first game, Emma Gibbs the nightcap. Billups went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the opener. Hannah Rose was 3-for-4. Victoria Van Matre homered. In the second game, Gibbs went 2-for-2 with three RBI.

WHEELERSBURG 18, PORTSMOUTH WEST 0: Boo Sturgill went 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBI to lead the Pirates (7-1 overall, 3-0 SOC) to a rout of the Senators (2-3, 1-2). Laney eller was 2-for-3 with four RBI. Sarah Claxton struck out seven and threw a one-hitter to earn the victory.

PORTSMOUTH NOTRE DAME 3, SYMMES VALLEY 2: Cassie Schaefer struck out 11 and allowed four hits to lead the Titans (6-0 overall, 3-0 SOC) by the Vikings. Schaefer also went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

SHERMAN 3, WINFIELD 0: Autumn Thompson hit a home run and struck out 10 for the home-standing Tide. Chelsea Thompson recorded two hits for Sherman (11-1). Winfield fell to 6-5.


IRONTON ST. JOE 11, CHESAPEAKE 3: Isaac Whaley threw a complete game and struck out eight as the Flyers (6-1) defeated the Panthers. Matt Sheridan had two hits and Jimmy Mahmeister two RBI. Thomas Sentz had four hits for Chesapeake.

HUNTINGTON ST. JOE 10, MAN 0: Hunter Eplin pitched a shutout, struck out nine and allowed only one hit as the Irish (6-3) beat the Hillbillies (6-4) on the road. St. Joe turned three double plays. Corey Sweeney went 4-for-5 and Mark Tabor 2-for-4.

GALLIA ACADEMY 7, IRONTON 0: Zane Loveday faced the minimum number of batters and threw a one-hitter as the Blue Devils (4-0 overall, 1-0 OVC) beat the Tigers. Loveday, a freshman, struck out seven of the 21 batters he faced. Garrett McGuire went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Brycen Thomas singled for Ironton’s only hit, but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.

MEIGS 4, RIVER VALLEY 0: The Marauders (2-1 overall, 1-0 TVC) were hitless until a four-run ninth inning. Chase Kemper struck out seven and walked four through eight innings, but lost the no-hitter on Wes Smith’s bunt single in the ninth.

GREEN 18, SCIOTOVILLE EAST 1: Eli Webb went 4-for-5 with four RBI as the Bobcats (5-1 overall, 3-0 SOC) walloped the Tartans. Mason Barber was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Winning pitcher Levi Singleton struck out 10.

HURRICANE 5, HICKORY RIDGE 4: The Redskins three runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a road victory over No. 8 team in Class 4A in North Carolina. Austin Dearing smacked two hits for Hurricane (10-1) and Matt Vance hit a double and drove in two runs. Hickory Ridge fell to 8-3.

SCOTT 6, WINFIELD 0: Carter Lyles allowed just two hits in pitching a complete game shutout in the road win. Lyles also hit two doubles and drove in two runs. Peyton Brown had two RBI and Isaac Miller and Nathan Kuhn each had two hits.
