Applefest Bazaar to ring in autumn Saturday
For nearly 30 years, Applefest has doubled as a highly anticipated community gathering signaling the arrival of fall in the Ludington area, and the largest annual fundraiser for St. Simon Catholic Church.
The 29th annual event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church, 702 Bryant Road in Ludington.
The festivities will take place in the Family Room, where the annual Applefest bazaar will offer a host of activities.
“This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for our church,” said Evelyn O’Brien, who co-chairs the event with her husband, Michael.
O’Brien said the money raised through pre-sales and during the event will go to replacing the room dividers in the Family Center, which is used for parishioners’ special events and meetings as well as for Bible study and other classes.
Food is served from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with hot pork sandwich dinners, hot dogs, sloppy joes and more, as well as coffee and dessert and, of course, the famous apple treats, with more than 1,600 apple dumplings, more than 450 apple squares and 200 crisps.
