Twins recall Sano and Moya...Injury fells Panthers right tackle...Darnold remains a no-show for Jets
BOSTON (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have recalled third baseman Miguel Sano and left-hander Gabriel Moya from Triple-A Rochester, adjusting after trades that sent away infielder Eduardo Escobar and right-hander Ryan Pressly. Escobar moved to third base during Sano’s six-week absence and was one of the team’s most productive players. He was dealt to Arizona yesterday, when Pressly was also traded to Houston. This is Moya’s third stint with Minnesota this season.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Panthers right tackle Daryl Williams has been carted off the field during the team’s first full practice in pads. Williams was engaged with two pass rushers during 11-on-11 drills when his knee bent back awkwardly. He left the field screaming in pain, with a brace on his right knee. Coach Ron Rivera didn’t elaborate on the injury but said Williams was returning to Charlotte, North Carolina, to be examined.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Sam Darnold is sitting out a second day of practice at Jets camp because of a contract impasse. The No. 3 overall draft pick is expected to compete with Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater for the quarterback job once under contract. Darnold will receive a four-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $30.247 million, including a $20 million signing bonus when he signs. The dispute seems to hang on contract language.
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam say their commitment to coach Hue Jackson has been “unwavering and still is.” Jackson kept his job despite losing 31 of 32 games over the past two seasons. The Haslams say they believe Jackson finally has enough talent to win.
GULLANE, Scotland (AP) — Ariya Jutanugarn (ahr-EE’-uh juh-TAN’-uh-garn) and Amy Yang lead the Ladies Scottish Open by one stroke after an increasingly tough scoring day in the third round. They carded 2-over rounds of 73 to be 8 under for the tournament. None of the top five broke par 71, as the wind picked up in the afternoon.
