Thrashers Sign Free Agent Ferraro

August 2, 1999

ATLANTA (AP) _ The expansion Atlanta Thrashers, desperate for scoring punch heading into their inaugural season, signed free-agent center Ray Ferraro today.

Ferraro, 35, had 13 goals and 18 assists in 65 games for the Los Angeles Kings last season. Overall, the 15-year veteran has 346 goals, 395 assists and 741 points during a career that also has included stints with Hartford, the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers.

``We are very happy to be adding a proven offensive player with Ray’s ability to the organization,″ general manager Don Waddell said. ``He is an established NHL veteran who will lend a guiding influence to our younger players.″

Ferraro has scored at least 20 goals during 10 seasons, including a career-high 40 with the Hartford in 1988-89. He played in the 1992 All-Star game as a member of the Islanders.

Terms of the deal were not immediately available.
