ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) — A man and woman were killed during a confrontation with law enforcement officers following a stolen vehicle chase in southern Colorado.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Saguache County sheriff's deputies attempted to make contact with the suspects Saturday morning in the town of Moffat but they fled in a stolen Jeep Patriot.

The stolen vehicle was later stopped near the Alamosa County line and authorities say the man and woman got out, with one of them carrying a shotgun.

Alamosa County Sheriff Robert Jackson told KKTV that the female suspect was killed following an exchange of gunfire with officers.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Susan Medina said Sunday that it's believed the male suspect shot himself. No officers were hurt.

The suspects' identifies have not been released.
