Man dies in Burlington house fire
BURLINGTON, Ohio - Authorities are investigating a fatal fire that occurred Monday morning in the Burlington area.
The Burlington Volunteer Fire Department received a call about a fire at 15 Township Drive 1434, South Point, at 7:55 a.m., Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said. Several fire departments responded, including a ladder truck from the Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department in Huntington, West Virginia.
Lawless said a woman made it out of the house and was taken to the hospital, but firefighters said a man did not make it out of the house and died.
Lawrence County Coroner Dr. Ben Mack said Monday evening the man’s body was unable to be identified. He has been sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for further autopsy and identification.
The woman was being treated at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, he said.
The state fire marshal’s office had been called to the scene, Lawless said.
No cause for the fire has yet been determined. Fire Chief Tim McMaster couldn’t be reached for comment.
