Weather-related crashes slow traffic on I-64

BARBOURSVILLE - Several crashes led to sections of Interstate 64 being temporarily shut down Tuesday afternoon between Merritt’s Creek and Milton due to icy roadways caused by snow and cold.

According to Cabell County 911, the first of a series of crashes occurred around 3:35 p.m. near the Merritt’s Creek exit in the eastbound lane. An EMS supervisor’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle while it was responding to another crash.

Dispatchers advised another crash occurred at the 19 mile marker just before the Mall Road exits that involved a tractor-trailer and Chevrolet passenger vehicle.

Two more crashes were reported in the eastbound and westbound lanes at 4:26 p.m., with one two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lane and a one-vehicle crash in the westbound lane.

No injuries were reported in any of the crashes.

According to West Virginia 511, the accidents were all cleared by 5:15 p.m.
