A man was taken to a hospital in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle while walking on South Anthony Boulevard tonight, police said.

Police found the man lying in the middle of South Anthony, just north of Simons Street, after receiving a 911 call just after 6 p.m.

Witnesses told police said the man was wearing all dark clothing and walking in the middle of the street when he was struck by a northbound GMC Envoy.

Initially the victim was in serious condition, but his condition was downgraded at the hospital, police said.

The driver and two passengers in the Envoy were not injured in the crash and cooperated with police, police said.

South Anthony Boulevard remained closed to traffic between Simons and Wayne Trace while police investigated the crash. South Anthony was reopened at 9:19 p.m., police said.
