Eagle Lands In First Place In PBA Senior
JACKSON, Mich. (AP) _ Dale Eagle threw strikes in the ninth and 10th frames Friday night to beat top-seeded Roy Buckley 213-194 in the championship match of the $110,000 PBA Senior Championship at Airport Lanes.
Eagle, whose real name is Dale Glenn, went into his eagle act _ including the flapping of his arms _ after nailing down his first PBA Senior title and the $16,000 first prize.
``Eagle is like my John Wayne entertainment name that I use out here on tour,″ he said. ``I told myself when I got up this morning to be myself, to have fun and not to be stone faced no matter how the matches went.
``I’m really happy, I could do a lot more eagle calls,″ said Eagle, who won his last of three regular-tour titles in 1986.
In the semifinal match, Eagle struck in the sixth, seventh and eighth frames to nail down a 236-195 victory over Al Sanford.
Eagle, who turned 50 on April 22, also has a fourth-place finish to his credit and has won $26,430 in eight tournaments.
The victory earned Eagle a berth in next year’s Brunswick Tournament of Champions and the Choice Hotels Classic’s ``Winning Never Gets Old″ competition.
Buckley earned $8,500, while Sanford took home $5,500.
