Frankfurt defender Constant Djakpa tears cruciate
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Eintracht Frankfurt and Ivory Coast defender Constant Djakpa faces a six-month layoff after suffering a cruciate ligament tear in his left knee.
The Bundesliga club says Djakpa suffered the injury in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Schalke. Team doctor Wulf Schwietzer determined its extent after the 27-year-old was stretchered off following an awkward landing in a challenge for the ball.
Eintracht coach Thomas Schaaf says, “This bad news comes as a complete surprise to us all. We’re very alarmed to have such a diagnosis again.”
Last month, Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee during Frankfurt’s 2-2 draw at Wolfsburg.
