Convicted Pedophile Charged Again

February 24, 2001

ERIE, Pa. (AP) _ A convicted pedophile has been charged with the rape, kidnapping and attempted homicide of an 8-year-old girl who was abducted from her home and left for dead in a snow bank.

Eric Jetson Lyons, 37, was charged with the Feb. 15 abduction after a neighbor told police he confronted a peeping Tom matching Lyons’ description a week before the attack.

Following his arraignment Friday, Lyons told reporters he felt sorry for the victim but was innocent.

Police allege Lyons abducted the girl from her home, drove her about a mile away and tried to rape and strangle her with either his hands or rope. Lyons then drove the girl to a parking lot and dumped her between a fence and snow bank where police said he ``pretty much left her for dead.″ The girl was found several hours later by two truck drivers.

The girl was in good condition in a hospital on Friday.

Police said Lyons was convicted of a similar attack on another young girl in 1982, and served more than 10 years of a 7 1/2- to 15-year prison sentence in that case.
