Ched Evans scores on return to professional football
OXFORD, England (AP) — Chesterfield striker Ched Evans has scored in his first professional football match since 2012 following a jail term.
The 27-year-old Evans had a rape conviction quashed in April after being released from prison in 2014.
The former Sheffield United player faces a retrial in October. He has pleaded not guilty.
Evans equalized in the 76th minute against Oxford United on Saturday, scoring with a long-range free kick.
The third-tier match ended 1-1 with Wes Thomas scoring his debut goal for Oxford.
