Tigers manager Buddy Bell ejected

April 24, 1997

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) _ Detroit manager Buddy Bell was ejected from Thursday’s game against Texas for arguing Raul Casanova’s strikeout in the seventh inning.

Casanova tried checking his swing against Roger Pavlik, but home plate umpire Dale Ford ruled that he didn’t. Before the next pitch was thrown, Ford motioned to the Tigers dugout to stop the chattering. With Bell in the dugout, he then threw out the manager.

Bell then met Ford halfway to home plate and their conversation appeared to get heated. Ford walked back toward home and Bell followed him to continue the conversation. Third-base umpire Rich Garcia then came in and ended the talk.

Detroit was ahead 2-1 at the time. It was Bell’s second ejection this season.
