KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a one-year contract with defensive end Ty Parten and signed three draft choices to three-year contracts Thursday.

Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Parten, 6-foot-5 and 282 pounds, joined the Chiefs in December 1997 and played in all 16 games in 1998 and 1999.

The Chiefs also signed fifth-round draft choice Pat Dennis, a cornerback from Louisiana-Monroe; sixth-round pick Darnell Alford, an offensive tackle from Boston College; and seventh-round pick Desmond Kitchings, a receiver from Furman.

The Chiefs released punter Daniel Pope, cornerback Brian Hinton and quarterback Marcus Crandell.
