9 set for RI National Guard graduation ceremony
CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — A Massachusetts resident is among nine officer candidates of the Rhode Island National Guard who are preparing for a weekend graduation ceremony, marking their transition from enlisted soldiers to 2nd lieutenants.
The National Guard says the officer candidates are set to graduate during a ceremony scheduled for Sunday morning at the Quonset Air National Guard Base in North Kingstown. Each candidate will receive orders of assignment within the Rhode Island National Guard.
The candidates are graduating attended a rigorous 18-month training program overseen by the 243rd Regional Training Institute that is headquartered at Camp Varnum in Narragansett.
The graduating candidates includes a Littleton, Mass., resident. Others include residents of Rhode Island cities of North Kingstown, Scituate, Westerly, Lisbon, Jamestown and Warwick.
