Couple, Three Kids Killed in Fire

CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. (AP) _ A family of five, including a 2-week-old baby cradled in his mother’s arms, died in a fire Tuesday at their mobile home.

The bodies of the parents and two older children were found soon after the fire was put out. After neighbors reported there were three children in the family, firefighters searched for most of the morning and discovered the infant under a blanket.

The fire began about 5 a.m. and appeared to be accidental, but the exact cause was not immediately nown, Fire Chief Bob Paris said.

The dead were identified by a relative as Loreto Joe Ramirez, 23, his wife, Katina Ramirez, 22, and their three sons _ Christian, 3, Necalo, whose second birthday would have been Friday, and 2-week-old Austin.

California City is in the Mojave Desert, 75 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
