Sumner’s big night not enough for Ants
Edmond Sumner had another strong game, scoring a game-best 33 points, but the Mad Ants lost 123-105 to the Grand Rapids Drive in front of 4,198 fans at the DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday night.
Sumner made 10 of 19 shots, including 4 of 8 from 3-point range, but he had six turnovers to go with his four assists for the Mad Ants (14-12).
Rob Gray added 19 points for the Mad Ants, who were without Alize Johnson and Davon Reed, as they remained with the Indiana Pacers. Ike Anigbogu was limited to only seven minutes of play.
Despite weather concerns, the Mad Ants told The Journal Gazette that their 7 p.m. game today at Memorial Coliseum against the Lakeland Magic will go on as planned, though they will continue to monitor the situation.
The Mad Ants were to bus back to Fort Wayne after their game at Grand Rapids and the Magic were to come from Wisconsin. Meanwhile, the G League was making arrangements to get officials in Fort Wayne on time.
Grand Rapids (12-14) got 27 points from Kalin Lucas, who was 11 of 16 from the field. Marcus Thornton scored 24 points. Todd Withers added 21.
Stephan Hicks had 16 points for Fort Wayne. Travin Thibodeaux had nine points and 11 rebounds.
