Tate Retains Middleweight Title
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Thomas Tate retained his North American Boxing Federation super middleweight title with a unanimous 12-round decision over Demetrius Davis on Friday night.
Tate, of Newport News, Va., improved his record to 35-5. Davis, of Houston, fell to 17-11.
Tate was ahead on all the judges’ cards _ 116-112, 116-112 and 117-111.
In an eight-round lightweight bout, Gerald Gray of New York won a split decision over Billy Irwin of Toronto.
Gray improved his record to 17-4-1, while Irwin fell to 23-3.
Irwin started slowly before staging a late comeback.
