Brewers-Pirates Game Canceled by Rain

September 8, 2004

PITTSBURGH (AP) _ The Brewers-Pirates game Wednesday night was canceled because of daylong rain and is not expected to be rescheduled.

Both teams are out of playoff contention and are not scheduled to meet again this season. The Pirates won the season series 12-6.

The Pirates are hopeful that rains resulting from the remnants of what formerly was Hurricane Frances will clear in time for Thursday’s doubleheader against the streaking Houston Astros.

Pirates left-hander Oliver Perez (9-8), who was to have pitched Wednesday, is scheduled to start the first game against Carlos Hernandez (1-1) with Josh Fogg (9-9) starting the second game against Tim Redding (4-7).

If Thursday’s twinbill is washed out, the Pirates face the prospect of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday, when Pitt plays its football opener.
