Herd, UAB soccer play to a 1-1 draw
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Marshall and UAB played a 1-1 men’s soccer draw in double overtime Saturday night at BBVA Compass Field.
Marshall’s record is now 2-3-2 for the season and 0-1-1 in Conference USA. UAB is 1-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 conference.
The conference foes ended the first half scoreless.
UAB broke the deadlock with Phillip Makinde’s goal in the 54th minute. After a foul on UAB toward the top of the 18-yard box, the referee awarded a free kick to Marshall and Jonas Westmeyer delivered in the 65th minute to pull the Thundering Herd even.
Two extra time sessions were also scoreless.
“This match was there for the taking, but we’ll take the draw on the road and get ready for Butler,” Marshall coach Chris Grassie said in a release.
Marshall stays on the road for its next match, a 6 p.m. Wednesday contest against Butler University in Indianapolis.

Visiting Tolsia Rebels get
44-36 win over Tug Valley
NAUGATUCK, W.Va. - Tanner Copley rushed 16 times for 149 yards and four touchdowns to spark visiting Tolsia to a 44-36 football victory Friday at Class A No. 11 Tug Valley
Copley also completed a 39-yard scoring pass to Josh Wilson and Devon Crum ran 14 times for 74 yards and one TD for Tolsia (3-2).
For Tug Valley (2-2), Tyler Chaffin completed 13 of 26 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns and ran 15 times for 64 yards and one TD. Caleb May had six catches for 205 yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers.
