Obama to host Italian PM Renzi at White House next month
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will meet at the White House next month with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
The White House says their April 17 meeting will cover a broad range of global issues. Likely topping the list is support for Ukraine and continued unity by the U.S. and European Union on pressuring Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine to abide by the terms of a recently negotiated peace accord.
Other likely topics of discussion include Libya, the international effort to counter the Islamic State threat, economic developments in Europe, a pending trade pact between the U.S. and European nations, climate change and energy security.
Obama and Renzi first met when the president traveled to Italy last year.
