Bridgeport’s BackPack to School event will take place Saturday

BRIDGEPORT — City students in need of a backpack to kick off the school year will be supplied with one at a free event on Saturday.

The BackPack to School event will be held at 999 Broad St. from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Backpacks and school supplies will be given to Bridgeport students while supplies last.

There will be free raffles and activities for the family.

Those who attend the event to get a free backpack and supplies must be a Bridgeport resident with proof of residency. Parents or guardians must bring the child with them to receive a backpack.

Backpacks are limited to one per child.

The event is hosted by the City of Bridgeport and Mayor Joe Ganim, in partnership with several agencies and businesses, including Micalizzi’s Italian Ice, Beardsley Zoo, Bridgeport Police Department and Bridgeport Fire Department.
