Hawthorn moved atop the table, narrowly ahead of Port on percentage, despite a 16.12 (108) to 13.10 (88) loss to North Melbourne. Drew Petrie booted five goals as North Melbourne continued a roller-coaster season, moving up to seventh place.
Fremantle beat Melbourne 15.7 (97) to 4.10 (34) in Darwin for a seventh straight win.
