Bridgeport PD: 1 hospitalized in critical condition after serious crash
BRIDGEPORT — After a serious crash that left one person hospitalized with severe head trauma late Sunday night, police are hoping witnesses will come forward to help investigators piece together the full story.
Just before 10:30 p.m., Bridgeport police officers were sent to Madison Avenue just north of its intersection with Madison Court for a report of a serous crash, according to police Capt. Kevin Gilleran.
A blue Subaru was seen by a witness driving at a “high rate of speed” south on Madison Avenue, crossing North Avenue, he said. The witness told police he heard a loud crash and turned to see the Subaru had collided with a black Lexus sport utility vehicle.
The Lexus had three occupants — two adults and one child — who were all taken to Bridgeport Hospital with minor injuries, Gilleran said.
There were four people in the Subaru at the time of the crash, two of which fled from the car and were later taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center by a private vehicle. They were each treated for minor injuries and later released. Gilleran said the driver of the Subaru sustained a minor back injury.
“The rear passenger was transported and remains in critical condition with severe head trauma,” Gilleran said in a report Monday. “Family was notified for the rear passenger.”
There was no immediate update on the rear passenger’s condition Tuesday.
The site of the collision was investigated by the Bridgeport Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Sgt. Gabe Meszaros of the Bridgpeort Police Department’s Traffic Division at 203-576-7640.
