Beer calendar: Cleveland Brew Bus history tours, Rozi’s annual pumpkin-ale tasting, Oktoberfest events, more

CLEVELAND, Ohio - There’s a lot of beer-centric news in Greater Cleveland, from Oktoberfest tastings to pumpkin-ale tastings at Market Garden and Rozi’s, new brewing-history tours from the Cleveland Brew Bus and more. SEPTEMBER

Tuesday, Sept. 18: The Rail locations will celebrate National Cheeseburger Day with $5 burgers at The Rail in Fairlawn, Canton, North Olmsted and Strongsville. The first 40 guests at each location to order a Millersburg Brewing Co. draft will get to keep the pint glass. (Four-sample flights of Millersburg beer flights also are available.)

Tuesday, Sept. 18: Platform Beer Co.’s Charitable Tuesday beneficiary is Girls With Sole at 3 p.m. A dollar sold of every Platform beer or cider will be donated. Platform is at 4125 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Sept. 19: Beer podcaster Dean Zarbaugh of The Taproom Exclusive will be at Hansa Brewery at 6 p.m. Hansa is at 2717 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Thursday, Sept. 20: Jack Casino will be linking beer specials to Cleveland Browns home-game opponents. Beers brewed in the home state of the Browns’ opponents will be featured for $3 in casino bars. Today: Southern Tier Brewing Co. for the New York Jets. Kickoff is at 8:20 p.m. The casino is at 100 Public Square.

Friday, Sept. 21: Greater Cleveland Aquarium will feature fall wines 7-10 p.m. at its adult swim event. Includes 20 tasting tickets, souvenir tasting glass, light hors d’oeuvres and full after-hours aquarium access. Tickets are $40 ($30 for annual passholders, $20 for designated drivers). It’s at 2000 Sycamore St., Cleveland.

Friday, Sept. 21: Heinen’s will hold a tasting of 10 Oktoberfest beers 6-8 p.m. Cost is $15. Register via eventbrite. It’s at 900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland.

Saturday, Sept. 22: The Festival of Beers will be at Canal Park’s concourse 4-7 p.m. Tickets are $30 (advance), $35 (day of), $50 (VIP includes early access at 3:30 p.m.) and $20 (designated driver). It’s at 300 S. Main St., Akron.

Saturday, Sept. 22: The Learned Owl will host a speak-and-sign event 1-3 p.m. with Akron Beacon Journal beer writer Rick Armon. Armon wrote “50 Must-Try Craft Beers in Ohio.” The bookstore is at 204 N. Main St., Hudson.

Saturday, Sept. 22: Wild Eagle Saloon will hold OktoBEERfest stein-holding competition at 6 p.m. It’s at 921 Huron Road, Cleveland.

Monday, Sept. 24: Yard House will celebrate Oktoberfest with a selection of ’fest beers: Sam Adams Octoberfest, Weihenstephan Festbier, Ayinger Oktoberfest, Paulaner Oktoberfest Wiesn and Goose Island Oktoberfest. Each of the featured breweries will provide a limited-edition stein. Guests can order the featured beer of the week in a souvenir stein for $10 on top of the price of a half-yard. One stein will be offered per week through Sunday, Oct. 28. It’s at 160 Union St., Crocker Park, Westlake.

Tuesday, Sept. 25: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold Tower Tuesday 3-9 p.m. The folks at the brewery will be blending beers with unique ingredients to concoct interesting flavor combinations. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Tuesday, Sept. 25: Platform Beer Co.’s Charitable Tuesday beneficiary is MedWish International at 3 p.m. A dollar sold of every Platform beer or cider will be donated. Platform is at 4125 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Sept. 26: Tremont Taphouse will feature MadTree Brewing at 6 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from beer sales will go to a local charity. It’s at 2572 Scranton Road, Cleveland.

Wednesday, Sept. 26: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold pint night / meet the brewers. Pints and barrel-aged 1/2 pints are $5 3-7 p.m. Meet the brewers is 5-7 p.m. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Wednesday, Sept. 26: Beerhead Bar & Eatery will hold a Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. tap takeover at 6 p.m. Includes keep-the-pint giveaways, samples and raffles. It’s at 1156 W. 11th St., Cleveland’s Flats East Bank.

Thursday, Sept. 27: During halftime of the Thursday-night NFL game (Minnesota Vikings at Los Angeles Rams), City Works will host a stein-hoisting competition. Competitors have to hold a full one-liter stein in front of their bodies with a straight arm, parallel to the ground. Male and female winners will receive a $100 gift card. City Works is in the Pinecrest development at the northeast corner of Interstate 271 and Harvard Road in Orange Village.

Thursday, Sept. 27: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold Throwback Thursday 3-9 p.m. Rare bottles will be 20 percent off for on-premise consumption only. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Thursday, Sept. 27: Mr. Zub’s Deli will host a dinner featuring MadTree Brewing at 6:30 p.m. A portion of proceeds from beer sales will go to a local charity. It’s at 795 W. Market St., in Akron’s Highland Square neighborhood.

Thursday, Sept. 27: Goldhorn Brewery will hold Autumn Treats in the Taproom, dessert and beer pairings at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $20. Tickets include a brewhouse tour, 8-ounce pour of your choice of beer, desserts from chef Teresa Scrimenti and four 5-ounce draft samples to pair. You’ll also learn about baking and brewing techniques. It’s at 1361 E. 55th St., Cleveland.

Friday, Sept. 28: National Drink Beer Day.

Friday, Sept. 28: Rozi’s Wine House will hold its seventh annual pumpkin-beer tasting with 14 brews (local and national) on draft 6-8 p.m. Cost is $25. It’s at 14900 Detroit Ave., Lakewood. Local beers to be served include Masthead Brewing Co. Haunted Hayride; Forest City Kurbisleichen Pumpkin Ale, Platform Yammy Yammy, Market Garden Maple Bourbon Franklin’s Castle and Pumpkin Pimp, and Millersburg Pope’s Pumpkin Ale.

Friday, Sept. 28: Quarter Up Bar Arcade will feature MadTree Brewing at 7 p.m. A portion of proceeds from beer sales will go to a local charity. It’s at 1446 N. Portage Path, Akron.

Friday, Sept. 28: Bier Markt will hold Oktoberfest 2018 at 4:30 p.m. Five fest beers will be featured, including Market Garden’s Old Zahm. It’s at 1948 W. 25th St., Cleveland.

Saturday, Sept. 29: Collision Bend Brewing Co. will hold Oktoberfest noon-midnight. A $35 buffet will include a keepsake one-liter stein. The brewery will be serving Riverfest, its ’fest beer. It’s at 1250 Old River Road in Cleveland’s Flats East Bank.

Sunday, Sept. 30: Cleveland Brew Bus has added Cleveland brewing-history tours every other Sunday through November. The 2.5-hour tour includes stops at three breweries located in former breweries (Bookhouse, Forest City and Platform production) and a pint at each one. Cost is $45 ($15, non-drinker). Sunday, Sept. 30: Royal Park Fine Wines will hold its annual fall wine and beer tasting 5-7:30 p.m. Two dozen wines (reds, whites, sparkling, sweet, dry) and six beers will be poured. Cost is $25. It’s at 12770 Royalton Road, North Royalton.

OCTOBER

Wednesday, Oct. 3: Platform Beer Co. will release Project Zero for the second year. It’s at 6 p.m. The brewery is teaming with Fleet Feet Cleveland, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Mizuno. The ale is a Brut India Pale Ale brewed with hibiscus and an Inca tea blend. A dollar will be donated to the foundation for every Project Zero ordered. Food specials also will be included. It’s at 4125 Lorain Ave. and 3506 Vega Ave. in Cleveland.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: Hofbrauhaus Cleveland will hold its monthly keg tapping at 6:45 p.m. at 1550 Chester Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: D’Agnese’s will hold a five-course beer dinner featuring Rhinegeist of Cincinnati at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $40. It’s at 566 White Pond Dr., at Interstate 77 in Akron.

Thursday, Oct. 4: Three Floyds Brewing will be featured at Townhall’s beer school at 8 p.m. Cost is $10 for five samples (includes Zombie Dust) and food. Townhall is at 1909 W. 25th St., Cleveland.

Thursday, Oct. 4: Market Garden Brewery will hold its seventh annual Pumpkin Beer Fest at 4:30 p.m. Highlight is a pumpkin firkin filled with Franklin Castle Pumpkin Ale. Guest beers and ciders will be available. It’s at 1947 W. 25th St., Cleveland.

Friday, Oct. 5: The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will feature Hoppin’ Frog Brewery beers on its Emerging Brews ride. Ticket includes two-hour train ride, four samples, light appetizers and commemorative glass. Tickets start at $50. Train departs at 7:30 p.m. from Akron Northside station.

Saturday, Oct. 6: The Cleveland Brew Shop’s Beer and Brewing 101 class is noon-3 p.m. Cost is $30 (one person), $40 (two). Includes class, tasting, lunch and a gallon of beer. It’s at 4142 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.
