Update: DeKalb and Sycamore loose-leaf pickup
Seasonal leaf collection windows are coming to a close, and residents in DeKalb and Sycamore will have one last chance to get their leaves gone before the holidays.
Public Works Director Fred Busse said his team is assessing the need for more leaf pickup, and will anticipate a possible final day of collection Monday or Tuesday.
“We’ll know a little more after today,” Busse said Friday afternoon. “The forecast over the weekend shows that things are going to warm up.”
So, it’s possible crews will pick up leaves early next week. However, Busse said the collection dumpster at 475 N. Cross St., right in front of the Public Works building in Sycamore, will be available through Wednesday. Residents are encouraged to bring leaves to the dumpster until that time.
“We’re hoping we’ll be back out picking up leaves, but it will be dependent upon the conditions,” Busse said. “We stopped due to the ice because we didn’t want to damage the equipment.”
Residents should keep an eye out for collection updates on the city of Sycamore’s website, or stay tuned to the Chronicle for continued coverage.
The city’s public works trucks will no longer be collecting leaves; however, Lakeshore Recycling Systems will be out collecting leaves until Dec. 31.
Residents are encouraged to collect their leaves in yard waste bags or cans and put them on the curb for yard waste pickup.
