DALLAS OFFICER-MISTAKEN APARTMENT

DALLAS — Dallas' police chief says her department is seeking to charge a white officer with manslaughter in the killing of a black neighbor. Chief U. Renee Hall said at a news conference Friday that "there are more questions than we have answers" in Thursday night's killing of 26-year-old Botham Jean, but that with the information investigators have now, they're seeking a manslaughter charge against the officer. Police say the officer shot and killed Jean, a 2016 graduate of Harding University in Arkansas, and that she later told officers that she mistakenly entered his apartment, thinking it was her own. SHERIFF'S FATHER SLAIN

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Authorities say a Fort Smith-area man has admitted to the slaying of an Oklahoma sheriff's father. Police arrested 44-year-old Ricky Rainwater on Monday after investigators reported they believed he robbed and killed Larry Lane Sr. over the weekend in Cherokee County, Oklahoma. Lane is the father of Sheriff Larry Lane Jr. of Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. 250 words.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A struggling Colorado State team will host a rare Southeastern Conference team in Arkansas. The Rams defense has allowed an average of 44 points and 606 yards through two games. The Razorbacks beat Eastern Illinois 55-20 last week. It's only the second time an SEC school has played at Colorado State. FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — When Arkansas junior quarterback Ty Storey entered the game on the first drive of the 55-20 season-opening victory over Eastern Illinois, he handed the ball to running back Devwah Whaley for an uneventful 3-yard rush. He was immediately relieved by sophomore starter Cole Kelley and he didn't see the field again until the second quarter. Twelve completions, 261 yards and three passing touchdowns later, the second game of the season is looming.
