Scammers Making Calls Appear to Come from Legitimate Longmont City Staff Numbers
Longmont police are warning people to not give out personal information to people who call them on the phone and appear to work for the city.
Scammers are calling people and using technology to make it appear that the call is coming from a legitimate number, including numbers for Longmont city staff, according to a Facebook post on the page for Longmont’s Department of Public Safety.
Police recommend residents not give out personal information, including bank or credit card information, on a call they either answered or otherwise did not initiate.
If residents believe a call came from a company with which they do business, police recommend hanging up and calling the business directly to find out if the call was legitimate. They also recommend finding the telephone number independently, and not relying on the potential scammer to offer contact information.
