Idaho man with animal cruelty past found guilty again
FORT HALL, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho man convicted of animal cruelty was found guilty on two similar charges in 2008.
The Idaho State Journal reported Wednesday that Shane Haggard was convicted in January of misdemeanor animal cruelty following a nine-month investigation into neglect of horses on his Fort Hall property.
A neighbor’s documentation of mistreated animals was corroborated by an animal welfare society that received numerous complaints.
A judge found that Haggard’s neglect caused at least one of three horse deaths between September 2017 and June 2018. He was ordered to pay $657 in fines, serve two years of probation and either give up his remaining horses or pay for weekly evaluations.
Haggard was convicted of two animal cruelty counts in 2008 resulting from dead or sick animals on his property.
