Martinez retains NABO Boxing Title
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ Maurico Martinez of Panama retained his NABO bantamweight title by stopping Edgar Jasso of Los Angeles at the end of the 10th round Monday night at Anaheim Arena.
Martinez took control after flooring Jasso with a right hand in the sixth round and won rounds 7-10 before Jasso was forced to retire in his corner because of a broken nose. He was injured in the sixth.
Jasso, 18, won the first three rounds, including flooring Martinez in the second. Martinez, 23, closed the gap by dropping Jasso in the fourth.
Martinez, who weighed 118 pounds, improved to 13-3 with seven knockouts.
Jasso, 117 1/2, fell to 14-3-1 with 10 knockouts.
In a 10-round super bantamweight bout, Israel Vazquez of Mexico stopped countryman Agustin Lorenzo at the bell ending the eighth round.
Heading into the eighth, Vazquez led by one point. He hurt Lorenzo with a right hand and poured on the punches, forcing referee Marty Denkin to stop the fight just as the bell ended the round.
Vazquez, 124, improved to 20-1 with 16 knockouts.
Lorenzo, 123 3/4, dropped to 24-5-2 with 19 knockouts.
