Police: Man shot with weapon he was carrying during arrest

December 24, 2018

ATLANTA (AP) — Police say a man was shot by gun that he was carrying during an arrest in Atlanta.

News outlets report 25-year-old Saleem Wilson was in stable condition at a hospital.

Police spokesman John Chafee says officers were called Saturday around 5 p.m. to a McDonald’s. Police say officers found handguns on Wilson and 23-year-old Jocquel Culpepper. They say one of the recovered guns was stolen.

Wilson allegedly fled and an officer followed him. Chafee says a struggle ensued and a gun that Wilson was carrying discharged and struck him. One of the responding officers suffered a hand injury.

Both men were arrested and charged with offenses, including carrying a concealed weapon. It’s unclear if they have lawyers who could comment.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate the incident.
