June 29, 2019

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina woman has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after she admitted shooting her boyfriend to death.

The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports 34-year-old Amy N. Taylor, of Chesnee, interrupted her trial Wednesday to plead guilty to murder. According to a statement from the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Circuit Judge Lee Alford issued the sentence Friday afternoon. In a separate hearing, Alford ruled she was ineligible for parole.

Taylor shot 57-year-old James Earl Sprouse, of Chesnee, multiple times to death on March 3, 2017. The victim was found wrapped in multiple tarps in a wooded area near the couple’s home.

Taylor confessed after giving several different stories to investigators, but claimed to be the victim of physical and mental abuse.
