Old Dominion 56, St. Joseph’s 55
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) _ Shonda Deberry’s layup with four seconds left Wednesday night lifted Old Dominion over St. Joseph’s 56-55 in the openign round of the NCAA East Regional.
Deberry scored the game’s final four points and finished with 26 as sixth- seeded Old Dominion (25-5) rallied from a 55-52 deficit. St. Joseph’s (19-9) had led by as many as seven in the second half, but a Deberry 3- pointer sparked a 7-0 run that tied the score at 36 with 14:58 left. The lead changed hands five more times and the score was tied six times before the end of the game.
After Old Dominion’s Lateefah Robinson tied the score a final time at 52 with 2:29 left, Megan Compain put 11th-seeded St. Joseph’s ahead 55-52 on a 3- pointer with 2:15 left. A foul by Tracy Harmon with a minute left sent Deberry to the line for two shots, both of which she made to cut the lead to 55-54.
St. Joseph’s missed two shots and a free throw in the final minute.
Compain led St. Joseph’s with 19 points, Kerri Nemeth had 16 and Robyne Bostick 14.
