Red Sox Purchase Brown’s Contract
BOSTON (AP) _ The Boston Red Sox purchased the contract of outfielder Adrian Brown from Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday and designated right-hander Steve Woodard for assignment.
Brown hit .282 with five homers, 32 RBIs and 34 steals in 122 games for Pawtucket this season. He led the club with 81 runs and helped lead Pawtucket to the best record in the International League.
The Paw Sox lost in the IL championship series as Durham completed the three-game sweep on Thursday night.
Brown was selected out of the Pittsburgh organization in the winter meeting draft last December. He has played parts of the last six seasons in the majors with Pittsburgh, hitting .261 with 11 homers, 83 RBI and 42 stolen bases in 408 games.
